Dr. Mustapha?Abdullahi
Director General, Energy Commission of Nigeria
Dr. Mustapha?Abdullahi is the Director?General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), having assumed office on 24 October 2023. In this role, he leads the Commission in driving Nigeria’s energy policy, research & development, and strategic planning, with a particular emphasis on energy transition, technology innovation and sustainable infrastructure. Before leading ECN, Dr. Abdullahi served as Senior Technical Adviser to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology. He has more than a decade of experience in Nigeria’s energy and space?technology sectors, having worked in NUPRC (formerly DPR) and the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), as well as in academia as a Research Associate. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester, where his doctoral research focused on structural health monitoring in oil and gas systems. Under his leadership, ECN has made significant strides: he inaugurated a National Bioenergy Steering & Technical Committee to mainstream bioenergy development in Nigeria. He has also championed energy efficiency, calling for broader adoption of Energy Management Systems (EnMS) to optimize energy usage and reduce wastage in Nigeria’s industrial sector. Additionally, he has been vocal about the need for foreign investment in Nigeria’s energy sector, advocating for clean energy financing at international forums.
