Regional Coordinator for Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen WASCAL Competence Centre (CoC)

Dr. Bruno Korgo is the Regional Coordinator for the Renewable Energy & Green Hydrogen theme at the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) Competence Centre in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. In this capacity, he leads work on developing renewable-energy supply strategies, green-hydrogen frameworks and capacity-building initiatives tailored for ECOWAS member states. His role includes coordinating research, innovation services and policy support to bolster sustainable energy transitions across West Africa. Before taking his current appointment, Dr. Korgo served in several senior roles in Burkina Faso’s energy sector, including as Director General for Renewable Energies in the Ministry of Energy and as a board chair or member of the national electricity utility. He also worked as a lecturer and researcher in atmospheric physics and renewable energy, holding a PhD in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Ouagadougou and master’s degrees in applied physics and electrical engineering/renewable energy. Among his notable achievements, Dr. Korgo has contributed substantially to national renewable-energy policymaking in Burkina Faso, offered expert consultancy to international organizations including the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the World Bank, and advanced green-hydrogen research and mapping in the ECOWAS region. His technical publications on aerosols, energy transitions and green hydrogen underscore his impact at the intersection of climate science and renewable-energy deployment.
