Mrs Omotenioye Majekodunmi

Director General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC)

Mrs Omotenioye Majekodunmi was appointed Director General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) by President Bola Tinubu, officially assuming office on 6 August 2025. In this role she leads the Council’s Secretariat and supports its mandate as Nigeria’s national focal point for climate policy implementation, coordination and governance under the Climate Change Act. With more than 17 years of experience in climate finance and environmental law, Mrs Majekodunmi previously served as Financial Adviser at the NCCC. In that capacity she contributed to the development of Nigeria’s climate investment frameworks, supported carbon market readiness, and participated in international climate negotiations. Before joining the Council she founded Ecoxchange, a consultancy through which she worked on clean energy projects including waste to energy and carbon credit initiatives. Since assuming office as Director General, Mrs Majekodunmi has prioritized the finalization of Nigeria’s National Climate Finance Strategy with a goal of mobilizing significant domestic and international funding. She has also outlined plans to strengthen Nigeria’s carbon market framework and advance climate action as a key driver of sustainable economic development under the current administration.
