Hendrik Meller
Head of H2-diplo – Decarbonization Diplomacy, GIZ Germany
Hendrik Meller is Head of the H2-diplo – Decarburization Diplomacy program at GIZ. In this role, he leads a global initiative commissioned by the German Federal Foreign Office, working with partner countries (such as Nigeria, Kazakhstan, Kenya and Saudi Arabia) to support the use of green hydrogen for economic decarburization and diversification. Before leading this initiative, Meller has been deeply involved in energy diplomacy and policy at GIZ. He contributes to geopolitical analyses, organizes high-level dialogue events (including the Future Forum Green Hydrogen) and produces strategic publications on energy transition, hydrogen trade, and decarburization pathways. Under his leadership, H2 diplo has published influential reports on hydrogen transport, decarburization of fossil fuel exporting countries and geopolitical risks in the emerging hydrogen market. The program has also strengthened diplomatic cooperation by convening peer to peer exchanges and capacity building forums to align hydrogen policy with foreign policy strategies.
