Director Gas, Ministry of Petroleum Nigeria

Ruth Audu-Nunghe serves as the Director of the Gas Department in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources (MPR), Nigeria. In this capacity, she leads the formulation and implementation of the government’s gas monetization agenda, oversees policies on gas infrastructure, commercialization of flare gas, emissions reduction, and regional gas trade expansion. Her role is central to Nigeria’s ambition to leverage its gas reserves for industrialization and energy transition. Prior to her current position, Mrs. Audu-Nunghe developed strong expertise in energy sector governance, regulatory frameworks and stakeholder engagement. She has been actively involved in coordinating interactions between government, industry and international partners to promote sustainable gas development and investment in Nigeria. Her track record positions her as a key bridge between policy and commercial gas-sector execution. Under her leadership as Director of Gas, she has contributed to Nigeria’s strategic push to reduce gas flaring, accelerate gas-to-power and gas industrialization projects, and promote Nigeria as a competitive gas hub in West Africa. Her work continues to drive investor confidence in the gas sector, strengthen regulatory alignment, and support the country’s energy transition ambitions.
